Report: 49ers considering promoting Chris Kokurek to defensive coordinator

Josina Anderson tweeted That 49ers Continue to evaluate candidates for your open defensive coordinator position. Former Panthers interim coach Steve Wilkes and Commanders defensive backs coach Chris Harris top the list, but Anderson ticked off 49ers defensive line coach Chris Kokurek.

Kokurek has gone on record several times saying he has no interest in becoming a defensive coordinator,

“The D-line is my passion. When I was younger, conceptually, I always wanted to know what was happening on defense so I could see where breakdowns happened, who was in their gaps, and what coverage . But my eyes are always drawn to the front. When I was young, my first three or four years in the league, I was taking notes on coverage but I was watching the D-line. It's something I've always had It's been a passion since and it's something I don't see changing.”

Football is fluid. Life is fluid. Kokurek may be looking for new challenges. so i thought he might be a candidate for texans defensive coordinator job, given that he was born in Texas and went to college texas tech,

Kokurek is not widely considered to be the best defensive line coach in the NFL. The production he's gotten out of free agents the 49ers have signed to one-year minimum contracts rivals anyone.

Assuming Nick Bosa wins defensive player of the year, what does Kokurek have to prove as a positional coach? Promoting Kokurek is also a way to ensure that he stays in the building for the foreseeable future.
